A Personal Tour of The Platform Townhome

The Platform Townhome is unlike any other place to stay in Moultrie because its story begins long before it became a vacation rental.

In the early years of World War II, when building materials were scarce, a young couple named Leon and Shug Pippen had a dream. They built the first of what would eventually become this remarkable property one townhouse at a time. As they saved more money, they constructed a second townhouse that mirrored the first. Those two homes are now known as Platform and Springboard.

As their family grew, so did their vision. They later added a much larger center residence and eventually completed the property with rear service quarters that allowed household staff to move discreetly between all three homes. From the street, the four grand columns and impressive front gable give the appearance of a single Southern mansion. It surprises many visitors to discover that what appears to be one stately home is actually four thoughtfully connected residences, each with its own unique personality.

Today, Platform occupies one side of that historic property and enjoys perhaps the best location in Moultrie for families visiting the Moss Farms Aquatic Center.

From the front porch, the living room, and even the upstairs bunk room, you can look directly across the intersection at the dive well. It is close enough that many guests simply leave the car parked and walk to practices and competitions. CVS is only a couple of blocks away, the Moultrie Arts Center is nearby, the walking and cycling trail is just beyond Moss Farms, and downtown restaurants and shops are only a short stroll away.

As you arrive, you’ll immediately notice how relaxed everything feels. There is plenty of parking, whether under the carport, beside the house, or on the grass. We simply encourage guests to make themselves at home.

Walking around the grand front façade, you’ll reach the private entrance to Platform. Before stepping inside, many guests pause on the front deck, where comfortable seating provides one of the best vantage points in town for watching the activity at Moss Farms while still enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the neighborhood.

Opening the front door, you’re welcomed into a comfortable living room centered around an original decorative fireplace that preserves the home’s historic character. Although the fireplace is no longer functional, it remains an important architectural feature that reflects the building’s history.

Large openings connect the living room to the dining room, creating an easy flow for families gathering after a busy day. Just beyond, a hallway leads past a convenient half bath into a bright, efficient kitchen with direct access to a private rear patio, making it easy to enjoy meals both indoors and outside.

The staircase leads to the second floor, where the laundry area is conveniently located on the landing. Upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The primary bedroom features a comfortable king-size bed, creating a quiet retreat for parents after a long day at the pool.

The second bedroom is what makes Platform especially popular with dive families. Rather than furnishing the room with traditional beds, we designed it specifically for families traveling with children and teammates. Two custom bunk beds provide two queen mattresses on the lower level and two full mattresses above, allowing multiple children to sleep comfortably while still giving everyone room to spread out. It has become one of the features guests mention most often because it solves a problem many traveling sports families face.

Platform combines history, convenience, and practicality in a way that’s difficult to find elsewhere. Whether you’re here for a national diving competition, a swim meet, a wedding, business, or simply exploring South Georgia, you’ll find yourself in one of Moultrie’s most walkable locations while staying in a building that has been welcoming families for more than eighty years.

We hope that during your stay you’ll not only enjoy the comfort of Platform but also appreciate the vision of the young couple who began building this remarkable property one townhouse at a time—a vision that continues to welcome guests from around the country today.

Designed especially for dive families, swim teams, sports groups, and anyone wanting to walk across the street to Moss Farms Dive Well.
