Where Should Diving Families Stay During a Moss Farms Meet?
For diving families, location matters.
A weekend at Moss Farms is very different from a typical vacation. Athletes may have early morning warmups, multiple competition sessions, team meetings, and long days spent at the pool. Parents often find themselves making repeated trips back and forth between lodging, restaurants, and the dive well.
That is why many experienced diving families eventually discover that staying as close as possible to the facility can make the entire trip more enjoyable.
A Facility with Olympic History
Moss Farms has earned a reputation as one of the premier diving facilities in the Southeast, attracting athletes, coaches, and families from across Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and beyond.
The facility’s history stretches back to preparations for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, when international teams trained in Moultrie before the Games. One local story still told today involves the head coach of the Chinese diving team, who stayed in what is now our Platform townhouse. When he wasn’t on deck coaching, he would return to the townhouse and spend hours looking out toward the dive well, watching practices from the upstairs window.
Nearly thirty years later, guests can still enjoy many of those same views.
Why Location Makes a Difference
On paper, many hotels appear to be close to Moss Farms.
In reality, even a ten-minute drive becomes noticeable when you’re making the trip several times a day. Parents often shuttle athletes back for forgotten equipment, meals, breaks between sessions, or simply a chance to relax away from the crowds.
Visitors unfamiliar with Moultrie frequently take longer routes through town, adding even more time to an already busy competition schedule.
One of our properties, Platform, sits diagonally across the intersection from the dive well itself. And Magnolia Cottage, Wren House and Palm Cottage are 3/10 of a mile away on 1st Street and can be combined for larger groups!
Divers can simply walk back and forth between sessions. Parents can return for lunch, check emails, take a break on the deck, or grab a forgotten towel without loading everyone into the car. During a long meet, that convenience can become one of the most valuable amenities of all.
From the upstairs bedroom and front deck, guests can often watch activity at the dive well while enjoying a quiet moment away from the competition.
What Diving Families Usually Need
After hosting diving families for years, we’ve learned that most visitors are looking for more than a place to sleep.
The amenities families appreciate most often include:
Multiple bedrooms for athletes, parents, and siblings
Full kitchens for preparing meals and snacks
Laundry facilities for towels, swimsuits, and competition gear
Reliable Wi-Fi
Comfortable living space for relaxing between sessions
Convenient parking
Easy access to Moss Farms
Many families arrive with coolers, team bags, recovery equipment, extra towels, and enough gear to fill an entire room. Having space to spread out can make a weekend competition much easier for everyone.
Enjoying Moultrie Between Sessions
While the diving meet may be the reason you’re visiting, many guests discover that Moultrie itself becomes part of the experience.
From Platform, downtown Moultrie is only a few minutes away. Visitors often stop at Beans & Strings for coffee, enjoy lunch at Three Crazy Bakers, or gather for dinner at Rocco’s Restaurant at the Theatre. Rancho Grande remains a favorite choice for families looking for a quick and reliable meal after a long day at the pool.
The historic courthouse square, local shops, and walkable downtown district offer a pleasant change of pace between competition sessions.
Planning Your Moss Farms Stay
Whether you’re visiting for a weekend competition, a training camp, or an extended stay, choosing the right accommodations can have a significant impact on your experience.
Families who stay close to the facility often spend less time driving, less time coordinating schedules, and more time focusing on what brought them to Moultrie in the first place.
For many diving families, especially those attending multi-day events, the ability to walk to the dive well, return easily between sessions, and enjoy the comfort of a full home has made Platform one of the most convenient lodging options in town.
