The Radium Springs & Sylvester Loop

If you’d like to explore some of South Georgia’s lesser-known attractions, this scenic drive combines local history, natural beauty, and small-town dining.

Begin by heading northwest from Moultrie toward Doerun, where a stop at Tyson Steel’s remarkable taxidermy display offers an unexpected glimpse into wildlife from around the world. What began as a personal passion has grown into a fascinating collection that surprises many first-time visitors.

Continue toward Albany and make time for a stop at Radium Springs. Once one of Georgia’s most famous natural attractions, the springs produce thousands of gallons of crystal-clear blue water every minute. The park’s walking paths and observation areas provide beautiful views of the spring basin and surrounding landscape. Although swimming is no longer permitted, the vivid blue water remains one of the most unique natural sights in South Georgia.

From Radium Springs, continue into Albany for lunch and a chance to explore the city.

After lunch, return directly to Moultrie or continue north to Sylvester for a slower-paced afternoon.

Sylvester’s historic downtown offers a glimpse of small-town Georgia, and on select days, The Palace serves as one of the region’s favorite dining destinations. Depending on the day and season, this can be an excellent stop for either lunch or dinner before making the short drive back to Moultrie.

This route also works beautifully in reverse. Many guests enjoy beginning in Sylvester, stopping for lunch at The Palace, then visiting Radium Springs during the quieter afternoon hours before returning through Doerun and back to Moultrie.

Allow four to six hours for the full loop, longer if you choose to spend additional time exploring Albany.
