A Personal Tour of Magnolia Cottage
Magnolia Cottage is the most secluded of our three neighboring vacation homes. Together with Palm Cottage and Wren House, it forms a unique collection of boutique vacation rentals owned and managed by Kirk Murphy Hospitality. Each home can be reserved individually, or families and larger groups often choose to reserve multiple homes while still enjoying the privacy of separate accommodations.
The neighborhood itself is one of Moultrie’s hidden treasures. This quiet historic street stretches only eight residential blocks, from 5th Avenue to 13th Avenue. In those eight blocks there are only about one hundred residential doorways. During the past few years, our Renovating Moultrie initiative, together with many other local property owners, has helped restore more than forty of those homes and apartments, transforming one of Moultrie’s most charming historic neighborhoods while preserving its original character.
Everything you need is comfortably within walking distance. CVS is only a block south and another block west. Continue a few more blocks and you’ll arrive at the Moss Farms Aquatic Center, and just beyond that are the walking and cycling trails, parks, and softball fields. Head north instead and in about five blocks you’ll reach Moultrie’s courthouse square with its restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and community events.
As you arrive at Magnolia Cottage, you’ll pull into your designated parking space just off the circular Chattahoochee stone driveway shared with the neighboring homes. From there you’ll pass through a wooden garden gate and follow a short grassy pathway beneath one of the property’s most treasured features—a magnificent mature magnolia tree whose broad canopy inspired the cottage’s name.
The walk itself quietly prepares you for something special.
From the outside, Magnolia Cottage appears to be a modest carriage house tucked privately behind Wren House. Most guests naturally expect a small, cozy cottage. Then the front door opens.
Suddenly you’re standing beneath a soaring two-story vaulted ceiling that fills the entire living space with light and volume. It’s one of those moments that almost every guest comments on because the interior feels dramatically larger than anyone expects from the outside.
Large windows overlook the garden and surrounding trees while carefully preserving privacy from neighboring homes. The living room flows naturally into a thoughtfully designed kitchen. Though compact, it is fully equipped and arranged so efficiently that preparing meals feels comfortable rather than confined. A graceful staircase rises through the center of the room, becoming both a functional feature and an architectural focal point.
The first floor also includes a spacious king bedroom with its own full bathroom, a conveniently located stacked washer and dryer, and sliding glass doors leading directly to a private patio. Whether you’re enjoying breakfast outdoors, reading beneath the magnolia tree, or simply relaxing after a day exploring Moultrie, this quiet outdoor space quickly becomes one of the cottage’s favorite features.
Upstairs, the open loft creates a completely different experience. Another king-size bed and private bathroom provide a comfortable second suite while windows facing east, south, and west fill the room with changing natural light throughout the day. Because the cottage sits tucked behind the neighboring homes and is surrounded primarily by trees rather than nearby windows, the loft feels remarkably private. Many guests describe it as having the peaceful feeling of a treehouse nestled among the branches.
Magnolia Cottage combines that sense of retreat with remarkable convenience. You’re only minutes from downtown restaurants, Moss Farms Aquatic Center, parks, walking trails, weddings, medical facilities, and everything else that brings visitors to Moultrie. Yet when you return each evening, the cottage feels tucked away in its own quiet corner of the neighborhood.
Like Palm Cottage and Wren House, Magnolia Cottage is part of a continuing effort to preserve the historic character of this special neighborhood while creating comfortable accommodations for today’s travelers. Every decision during its restoration was guided by a simple goal: honor the home’s original charm while giving guests a place that feels welcoming, peaceful, and unexpectedly memorable.
Whether you’re traveling as a couple, two couples, dive families visiting Moss Farms, or friends exploring South Georgia together, we hope Magnolia Cottage becomes one of those places that surprises you the moment you open the front door—and stays with you long after you’ve returned home.
A wonderful choice for couples, two couples traveling together, medical professionals, or anyone looking for a peaceful retreat tucked beneath the magnolia tree.
