This is one excursion where an early start is highly recommended. Leave Moultrie shortly after sunrise and make your way through Thomasville toward Birdsong Nature Center. The preserve can be a little difficult to find on your first visit, so we recommend checking directions carefully before leaving town.
The reward for an early morning arrival is well worth the effort.
Birdsong is known for its remarkable bird window, a quiet, dimly lit viewing room where visitors can sit comfortably while watching a steady parade of birds feeding just outside the glass. Even guests who have never considered themselves bird watchers often find themselves lingering much longer than expected. For those who want a deeper experience, Birdsong also offers guided morning walks where naturalists help visitors identify birds throughout the property. Early morning is the most active time of day, making it the best opportunity to see and hear a wide variety of native species.
After your visit, continue back toward Thomasville for lunch and an afternoon exploring one of South Georgia’s most charming downtown districts. Stroll along historic Broad Street, browse local shops, and enjoy lunch at one of the city’s favorite restaurants before making the drive back to Moultrie.
