As you turn onto this quiet street in Moultrie’s historic district, you’ll notice that Wren House is part of a unique collection of three neighboring vacation homes owned and managed by Kirk Murphy Hospitality. Palm Cottage sits on the corner, Magnolia Cottage is tucked privately behind, and Wren House occupies the center of the property. Each home can be enjoyed individually, or families and groups can reserve multiple homes together while still having their own private spaces.
The neighborhood is one of our favorite parts of Moultrie. Wide sidewalks make it easy to stroll about five blocks north to the courthouse square, where you’ll find local restaurants, shops, and community events. One block south and another block west brings you to CVS, and just beyond that is the Moss Farms Aquatic Center. Continue a few more blocks west and you’ll reach Moultrie’s walking and cycling trail. It is a peaceful neighborhood with friendly neighbors, mature trees, and the kind of quiet atmosphere that encourages an evening walk after dinner.
As you arrive, you’ll pull into the circular Chattahoochee stone driveway and step onto the welcoming front entry. The front porch is intentionally modest, serving as an inviting entrance into the home’s classic foyer, where the original staircase immediately becomes the centerpiece of the house.
To your right is the spacious living room, anchored by a beautiful original fireplace and a large picture window overlooking the private backyard. While both fireplaces in the home are decorative rather than functional, they remain an important part of the home’s historic character. The living room flows naturally into the dining room, creating comfortable gathering spaces for families and friends.
Just off the dining room you’ll discover one of our favorite places in the house—a large covered side porch that feels like an outdoor living room. Whether you’re enjoying your first cup of coffee in the morning, reading a book during the afternoon, or relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening, this porch is where many guests choose to slow down and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Beyond the porch, a spacious deck overlooks a private backyard shaded by a magnificent mature magnolia tree, creating a wonderful setting for outdoor conversation or simply unwinding after a day exploring Moultrie.
The adjoining galley kitchen is bright and cheerful, with abundant windows, warm acacia wood countertops, and open shelving that gives the space a relaxed, welcoming feel. Everything is conveniently arranged for preparing meals while remaining connected to the rest of the home.
Continuing around the first floor, you’ll find a vestibule with the laundry area, a full bathroom, and a comfortable queen bedroom. One feature guests often notice is the home’s circular flow—you can walk completely around the central staircase, giving the first floor an open, connected feeling that is uncommon in homes of this era.
Upstairs, the staircase opens to two generously sized bedrooms. The primary bedroom features a king-size bed, another original decorative fireplace, a comfortable sitting area, and a game table perfect for cards, puzzles, or simply relaxing with a morning cup of coffee. At the top landing is a charming historic bathroom featuring its original black-and-green tile, a reminder of the home’s late-1940s heritage. Just beyond is the second upstairs bedroom with a queen bed, completing accommodations that comfortably sleep up to six guests.
Wren House was originally built in the late 1940s as housing for servicemen returning home after World War II. That history is shared with nearby Palm Cottage, and preserving the character of these homes became an important part of their restoration. When we purchased Wren House, it had wonderful bones and tremendous historic charm, but it needed thoughtful renovation to become the comfortable home you’ll experience today. Every improvement was made with the goal of preserving its original personality while providing the conveniences modern travelers expect.

One final note about the name. Wren House is named in honor of a family who once lived here. Their surname was WRENN, and rather than using the family name directly, we chose the simpler “Wren,” like the songbird. It serves as a quiet tribute to the people who called this house home long before we had the privilege of restoring it for today’s guests.
